Each month we look at the most popular beer hops being searched for by brewers around the world. Our latest infographic outlines the new top 8 trending hop varieties for the month of July, 2016.
The top 3, Cascade (US), Citra® and Chinook remain largely unchanged from June. These are clearly monsters of the industry and remain unchallenged at the top of the chart. There are some surprising new entries in July though with Simcoe®, Cluster and Centennial making entries for the first time.
Are brewers looking backward to some old staples? Centennial and Cluster were both at one time pillars of US commercial hop production but recently have both seen a resurgence among craft breweries. Simcoe® isn’t exactly old but it’s hefty splash into the 8 this month adds to it’s ever apparent increase popularity. Brewers seem to be buoyed by Simcoe® as an interesting and proven alternative to Cascade (US).
Honourable mentions to Galaxy and Willamette — which both dropped out of the top 8 this month — now residing at number 9 and 10 respectively.

Hi, I love the site and the information. I a just curious about your sample base and where you compile the data from. Can you provide a permanent link as to the source of the numbers that you compile? (I am not asking for you to reveal your sources.)
Just like to know if this is based on a straw pole of brewers or farm sales reporting or some other resource. Thanks.

Hi Marc, are you talking about the analytical data? Numbers shown are usually an average (in the case of USDA data, the 10-year harvest average) of sources found. References / sources can be found at the bottom of each hop page.
